Commissioner Salim Adofo
SMD 8C07
Salim Adofo is a dedicated tenant organizer, community advocate, and elected Commissioner of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 8C. Since being elected by his Congress Heights neighbors in 2018, Salim’s work has brought impactful and inspiring change to Ward 8.
As a tireless tenant organizer, Salim has provided legal support and emergency rental assistance to over 800 families during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping to stabilize the community during one of its most challenging times. His efforts have strengthened existing tenant associations and led to the creation of new ones, fostering a stronger, more united community.
Recognizing the need for improved educational opportunities, Salim founded the Ward 8 STEM Academy. This initiative, which educates elementary and middle school students in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and the arts, has become a cornerstone of the community. Beyond academics, the academy nurtures critical thinking skills and teaches students about conflict resolution, setting them up for future success.
As Commissioner, Salim has also worked diligently to improve traffic safety and infrastructure across Ward 8. Through his advocacy, speed bumps have been installed near every school in his district, roads have been resurfaced, potholes repaired, and raised sidewalks installed, ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
Salim’s commitment to environmental justice is reflected in his creation of the Clean Ward 8 initiative, a monthly community clean-up effort focused on schools, parks, and recreation centers. This initiative ensures that students and families can enjoy a clean and safe environment.
Beyond his local work, Salim’s sense of service extends to his country. As a veteran of the United States Army, he honorably served during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, experiences that have instilled in him a deep sense of duty, discipline, and leadership. He continues to serve his community with that same dedication. Salim also serves on the board of the United Planning Organization (UPO), continuing to advocate for education, economic empowerment, and community development.
