Commissioner Gregory White
SMD 8C02

Gregory White is a native Detroiter who decided to make D.C. his home. After years of renting in the DMV area, he purchased a home in Congress Heights in 2019. A family man, he is the father of a 17-year-old daughter, 22-year-old son, and 34-year-old daughter. Additionally, he’s the eldest of nine children from a working-class family in Detroit. He credits his four brothers and four sisters with helping him to refine his leadership skills.

Professionally, he is a Program and Management Analyst for a federal agency. His work primarily involves data analysis, data visualization, and process improvement. Gregory has a unique background that spans quantitative analysis, qualitative analysis, project management and change management. As such, throughout the agency he is known as a leader who can create and communicate nuanced and data-informed solutions across the enterprise.

As a public servant in the federal space, he has led a number of key initiatives while working for the U.S. Census Bureau, the Department of Commerce, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Prior to his federal career he spent a decade working for Fortune 150 firms, including Pfizer, Morgan Stanley, and Liberty Mutual. However, his initial passion and profession was being a high school teacher. He taught government, history, and geography in Boston and Detroit.

Gregory earned his Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Michigan and his Master of Education degree from Harvard. As a Commissioner, he looks forward to expanding his circle of friends, neighbors, and colleagues who want to create safe, equitable, and fulfilling community spaces for all.
