Commissioner Georgette Joy Johnson

Georgette Joy Johnson, a native Washingtonian, proudly serves as the Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner for Single Member District 8C01, representing the historic Barry Farm community in Ward 8. Growing up in the Bloomingdale and Shaw neighborhoods, Georgette developed a deep-rooted connection to the city and a passion for serving her community.
A dedicated public servant, Commissioner Johnson brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role. She holds a bachelor’s degree and an MBA earned through her studies at Tennessee State University, the University of the District of Columbia, and the University of Saint Francis. Her background in real estate and government procurement equips her to address pressing issues such as housing affordability, economic growth, and public safety in her district.
Georgette is deeply committed to preserving the rich history and culture of Ward 8, while fostering equitable development and promoting community engagement. As a life member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., she has held various leadership roles, including advisor and social action co-chair, further demonstrating her dedication to service. She also serves as the Communications Chair for the University of the District of Columbia National Alumni Society and champions youth empowerment through community events, literacy programs, and neighborhood improvement initiatives.
With a lifelong passion for education, advocacy, and inclusivity, Georgette strives to ensure every resident of SMD 8C01 has a voice in shaping the future of their community. Her leadership is guided by a commitment to equity, sustainability, and the well-being of all Ward 8 residents.
In her free time, Georgette enjoys mentoring young professionals, participating in local cultural activities, and advocating for policies that drive meaningful progress and empowerment.
